Geography

The Department of Geography is dedicated to providing quality education in the study of the Earth, its landscapes, environments, and the relationship between human societies and their surroundings. The department aims to develop geographical knowledge, environmental awareness, analytical thinking, and research skills among students through a balanced approach of classroom learning, practical work, and field studies.

Department’s Vision

“To become the premier centre for spatial innovation where old-world geographic knowledge is combined with new-world digital technologies to create innovative ways of using Geospatial Technologies, Remote Sensing and Data Science to understand planetary problems and paint the picture of a sustainable future.”

Department’s Mission
  • Pioneering Digital Spatial Intelligence: Teaching the next generation of geographers in Advanced GIS (Geographic Information Systems), Satellite Remote Sensing, and UAV (drone) mapping, converting raw planetary data into actionable insights.
  • Decoding Global Dynamics through Local Lens: Leveraging predictive spatial modelling and Earth observation data to tackle critical issues such as rapid urbanization, climate vulnerability and resource depletion.
  • Bringing Together Technology and Humanity: In order to use the latest technology responsibly, where large datasets, digital mapping, and spatial analytics can be put to good use to help marginal communities, facilitate rural growth, and address practical issues.
  • Promoting Geo-Computation Research: To foster a culture of impactful research through the fusion of machine learning and landscapes, making us a premier geo-computing school in the world.
